Benefits:

Beeswax helps give our oil cleansers a smooth, luxurious texture. It also increases the nourishing and moisturizing benefits of the cleansers, unlike most cleansers which actually dry out and damage the skin, which allows us to use less products after cleansing. Beeswax has antibacterial properties, so as you gently massage the cleanser into your face, it aids in removing impurities and bacteria from the skin. Source of Vitamin A.

Benefits:

Starfloweris a common name for borage, a Mediterranean plant that grows happily almost everywhere, including on the coast of British Columbia. Bees and hummingbirds love to visit its blue star-shaped flowers, which are edible and have a delicate honey flavour. Their most unique feature, however, is that the seeds of this pretty plant contain a massive amount of GLA (gamma-linoleic acid).

Borage oil is made by cold-pressing the tiny seeds from the plant, and contains up to 26% GLA – making it the richest known natural source of this non-essential fatty acid.

Benefits:

Along with the cooking herbs of mint, rosemary and sage, chamomile is probably one of the best known and well used herbs.

Of the many benefits of chamomile, the main properties which help with skin are anti-inflammatory, analgesic (pain relieving), anti-bacterial and anti-microbial and anti-anxiety. The skin conditions I think chamomile has the biggest and most positive impact on are acne, eczema, psoriasis and rosacea.

Camellia oil is very light and absorbed quickly and penetrates deep into the skin, making it lovely to use (it’s very similar to our skin’s own oil) and very effective. It has been shown to help build collagen, as well as preserve the collagen we have, supporting firm but supple skin. Great as we age, when collagen is decreasing.

I love the nourishing and regenerative properties of frankincense for the skin. Now, science is beginning to understand how it works. A component of frankincense, boswellic acid, is being studied for its strong anti-inflammatory and cell-protecting properties. Studies have shown it to soothe and reduce skin irritation and redness.

Frankincense has also been shown to help to heal wounds and lessen scars.

Geranium is one of the most well-known and well-used herbs for skin health.

The key word with geranium is balance. It can be used to balance hormones, to balance moods, particularly with anxiety and nervousness, and to balance the skin.

Geranium will not only help to balance the surface layers of the skin. It will work on a much deeper level. As a tonic for the adrenal cortex, it helps to regulate the release of hormones, such a huge factor is skin health.

Benefits:

Hyaluronic (hi-a-lur-onic) acid (HA), or sodium hyaluronate is now a widely known and well accepted skin care ingredient. It’s ability to hold up to 1000x its own weight in water and be absorbed readily through the surface of the skin is what makes it so great. Without it, it is incredibly hard to get useful amounts of water into the skin using topical products.

Benefits:

Lanolin is extracted from the oils found on the wool of sheep.

The composition of fats and water that make up lanolin are almost identical to the fats and water in our human skin. It deeply moisturizes (both with oils and water) our skin while allowing it to breathe. No plant oils can mimic our skin so closely. This makes lanolin so perfect for very dry and damaged skin.

Pressed from the nuts of the shea tree found in Africa this butter contains fatty acids with a real affinity to our skin, more so than other butters (such as cocoa, coconut and mango butters).

These fatty acids are what give shea butter its wonderful emollient (skin softening) and humectant (prevents moisture loss) properties. The specific combination of fatty acids is non-comedogenic (non-pore blocking).
